Après Sea Ranch began the way most honest things do - not with a plan, but with a feeling.
It started inside Driftwood, our surf market on Thames Street in Newport, Rhode Island. We'd built a store for the coastal woman: easy, sun-worn, a little salty. And she showed up, season after season. But alongside her, another woman kept appearing. She wanted something quieter. More considered. She wasn't looking for the loud print or the trendy silhouette - she was looking for the piece that would still feel right in five years. The sweater with a story. The sandal that molds to her foot. The jewelry that doesn't ask for attention.
We built Après Sea Ranch for her.
The name holds the whole idea.
Après - that French word that has lived
in ski culture for decades - means after. The moment after the effort. The golden hour after the day. The ease that follows the doing. We borrowed it because it describes something we believe about the way our customer actually lives: she's not performing her life. She's settling into it.
Sea and Ranch because those are the two landscapes that ground her - and us. The Atlantic coast of New England, with its saltwater light, its cedar-shingled architecture, its quiet harbor mornings. And the wide-open west: Montana ranchland, high desert, the kind of landscape that asks you to slow down or it will simply wait you out.
Both places share the same quality of light at the end of the day. Both ask the same thing of the people who love them: presence.
What we carry.
Après Sea Ranch is a curated edit - not a department store, not a trend capsule. We carry things built to last: Pendleton wool and cotton made in American mills since 1863. Rainbow Sandals, a California surf brand still making the same leather sandal they started with in 1974, that will mold to your foot over a summer and become the only sandal you reach for after that. May Martin jewelry, handmade in Southern California, 14k gold-dipped, made by hand. Heritage denim. Coastal linens. Pieces from small makers and heritage houses alike, chosen for quality, longevity, and the feeling they give you when you put them on.
We don't chase newness for its own sake.
We look for the thing that earns its place.

Our collections are organized by geography, not season.
The Sea is rooted in Newport — layered knits for harbor mornings, linen shorts for dock afternoons, jewelry that catches salt-light.
The Ranch lives in Bozeman — heritage wool, western-inflected leather belts, the kind of flannel shirt that looks as right in a barn as it does in a restaurant. The Escape finds its way to Kailua — where swim and ease and tropical light meet in the most understated way we know how to do it.
These aren't marketing categories.
They're the actual places that shaped what we carry and why.

Après Sea Ranch lives as a shop-in-shop inside Driftwood Surf Market at 395 Thames Street in Newport, Rhode Island.
You'll find it on the left side of the store - the feminine side, if you believe in that kind of thing, the side aligned with intuition and flow and the quiet pull of creativity. It has its own world in there.
